Initially it was affiliated with the University of Poona but later on became a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University). The college has been recognized by the Dental Council of India and presently, one undergraduate and eight postgraduate courses are being offered at the institute.

Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College and Hospital, Pune was established in 1989 to meet the growing aspirations of the students to obtain professional education in the field of dentistry. Initially it was affiliated with the University of Poona but later on became a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University).

In pursuit to raise standards of education and research, the college boasts of having a well-qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching staff, advanced teaching learning methods and equipment and technologies, value-based education to students with feedback systems, extracurricular activities and N.S.S. activities for overall development.
